UNESCO Endorses NEXUS Innovation: Pioneering 3D Concrete Printing for Sustainable Housing

We are thrilled to announce a proud moment for NEXUS and the talented student innovators we support: the Final Year Design Project titled “Sustainable Prefabricated Modular Construction through 3D Concrete Printing” has been officially endorsed by UNESCO under the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (2024–2033).

This groundbreaking project, developed as part of NEXUS’s applied research ecosystem, showcases the potential of 3D concrete printing to revolutionize affordable and sustainable housing. The endorsement not only acknowledges the innovation and technical excellence behind the project but also reflects the alignment of NEXUSs mission with global sustainability goals.

“This endorsement underscores our team’s commitment to real-world impact. By leveraging 3D concrete printing for prefabricated modular construction, we’re working toward scalable, low-carbon housing solutions in Pakistan and beyond.”

The project was developed by a passionate and skilled team of final-year students: Mughees Kiyani, Rajja Emaan, Babar Kamal, and Syed Muhammad Hussain, under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Usman and co-advisors Raja Dilawar Riaz Janjua and Saif Ur Rehman. Their vision, hard work, and innovation have positioned them on the global stage among other leading sustainability initiatives across the world.

As part of its endorsement, the project will now be part of a global network of initiatives dedicated to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through science, technology, and open innovation. The team is currently exploring international collaborations and opportunities to scale up prototypes and pilot affordable housing models in Pakistan.

We at NEXUS congratulate the entire team and proudly reaffirm our commitment to fostering innovation that builds resilient, green, and equitable communities.

Stay tuned for updates as we continue to support this initiative through its next stages!
